I'm Just Johnnie

Johnnie Johnson was more than a legendary pianist — he was the rhythmic soul behind the birth of rock & roll. Best known for his groundbreaking work with Chuck Berry, Johnnie helped craft classics like “Maybellene,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” and the iconic “Johnny B. Goode.” A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, he also played alongside Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, and many more.
But beyond the spotlight, Johnnie was a humble, joyful spirit who loved fishing, Cardinals baseball, and spending time with friends and family. His unmistakable boogie-woogie groove, warm smile, and deep St. Louis roots left an unforgettable mark on every stage he played.
Whether behind a piano or casting a line at a quiet lake, Johnnie lived with heart. His music and legacy continue to inspire generations — because as he always said, “I’m just Johnnie, and I’m tryin’ to be good.”
